Wishing You a Blessed Yom Kippur
Yom Kippur – the holiest day of the year in Judaism – begins at sunset on Sunday.

Known as the "Day of Atonement," Yom Kippur's central themes are atonement and repentance. The Jewish faith traditionally observes this holy day through fasting and intensive prayer until sunset the next day.

To all those observing Yom Kippur, I hope you have a blessed and meaningful holiday.

      United Illuminating Project Update
Yesterday, I was honored to join many leaders from our community who have organized to fight UI's transmission line upgrade proposal. While I don't believe this news segment (which you can view by clicking the first photo below) adequately captures the concerns of the community, I'm grateful the project is getting more attention.
Rep. Leeper speaking with News12 Connecticut on the UI transmission lines plan.
As you can see from the to-scale rendering below, these monopoles will be extremely instrusive and destructive to the landscape and property owners. We were joined yesterday by Jane Montanaro, the Executive Director of Preservation Connecticut, the statewide organization overseeing historic preservation. The Southport Village is a National Historic District, and the indiscriminate taking of these protected lands could be precedent-setting. I was on the Lisa Wexler Show this morning to further discuss this project and its potentially devastating impacts on our entire community.

UI will be holding another Town Hall event on Oct. 4th at 6:00pm at the Fire Training School at 205 One Rod Hwy. I hope you can join and share your concerns.

If you have not yet written your concerns to the CT Siting Council, please contact them at siting.council@ct.gov

What fun! As an alumna of Wellesley College, I had the pleasure of being the featured speaker for the Fairfield Villages Wellesley Club last week. Being surrounded by these trailblazing, brilliant women who made possible everything I am able to do was life-giving. Attending Wellesley was a gift in my life and a truly transformative experience, one for which I’m constantly grateful. Thanks for having me Fairfield Villages Wellesley Club!

      Introducing CTParks.com

There's a fantastic new website just released by the State of Connecticut: CTParks.com. This website is a one-stop shop for everything related to Connecticut's world-class state parks.

Developed in collaboration with the Department of Economic and Community Development and the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, CTParks.com offers a variety of search features, including a park finder tool, the best locations for camping, all types of programs and events, and so much more.

This website was launched just in time for fall - the most beautiful season to hike in Connecticut. I can't wait to use it to discover new locations across the state, and I hope you'll check it out, too.

I'm committed to ensuring your voice is heard. Please don't hesitate to call my office at (860) 240-8585 or email me if there's anything I can do for you. Be sure to follow @LeeperForFairfield on Facebook and Instagram to stay up-to-date on everything I'm doing at the Capitol.

      Sincerely,

      Jennifer Leeper
      State Representative
