Nearly $17.5M in State Bonding Coming to Waterbury!

October 6, 2023

I'm proud to announce the 75th district of Waterbury is receiving nearly $17.5 million in state bonding to support affordable housing, downtown development, remediation, and repair projects.

Waterbury is about to undergo an amazing transformation that will bring new housing opportunities, downtown redevelopment, and so much more progress specifically to our district. Our state is in dire need of more affordable homes and improved inner-city communities.

$7,278,995 million is going to Brass City Residences to transform a blighted area into a new neighborhood with affordable housing opportunities.

Current view from West Grove Street, which will eventually turn into affordable housing.

$7 million is being invested for the Phase III Downtown Redevelopment Project, including HVAC, mechanical, code compliance upgrades, and renovations to facilitate future mix-use redevelopment with potential for additional downtown housing on the upper floors of two largely vacant downtown office/retail properties.

$3.1 million will be spent on remediation to the former Waterbury Button Factory to prepare the site for redevelopment.

We have a glaring need to clean up this former factory site.

And $94,311 is going to the Brooklyn Meadow Neighborhood Cultural Social Organization of Waterbury for masonry restoration, roof replacement, and parapet roof wall repair.

The funding for the Brass City Residences, which is the nonprofit arm of the Waterbury Housing Authority, was recommended recently by the Community Investment Fund 2030 (CIF) to help construct 46 units of affordable housing as part of the redevelopment of the West Grove Street neighborhood. The CIF grant will also go toward construction of a community room and full reconstruction of street and sidewalks of West Grove Street.

I am grateful that Governor Ned Lamont, House Speaker Matt Ritter, and the State Bond Commission, in particular Rep. Ron Napoli, share my vision for Waterbury that will bring new life, opportunity, and prosperity to our city. I will continue advocating and working with leadership to bring more economic development opportunities to our neighborhoods.
