Dear Neighbor,

The State of Connecticut's Renters’ Rebate Program ends on October 1, 2023. All applications for qualifying residents must be submitted by September 28, 2023.

The State of CT RentersRebate Program provides an income-based reimbursement for seniors aged 65+ and/or individuals who are disabled and collecting Social Security income. The renters’ rebate amount is based on qualifying income and the amount of rent and utility payments (excluding telephone) made in the previous calendar year (2022). The maximum income for a single person to qualify is $40,300 or $49,100 for a married couple. Any 2022 rent or utility payments made by UniteCT will not be counted.

In addition to meeting the criteria above, applicants must meet a one-year state residency requirement. People renting an apartment, room, mobile home, or cooperative housing may be eligible for this program.

Westport applicants can contact Kristen Witt, Human Services Department at (203) 341-1067 or via email Kwitt@westportct.gov to complete the application process.

Westport Human Services Seeks Community Support for Children's Back-to-School and Afterschool Childcare Programs

The Westport Human Services announced the department's Annual Back-to-School and Afterschool Childcare Campaign to support income-eligible families in preparation for the 2023-2024 school year.

Human Services’ Family Programs help qualifying households purchase school essentials and may also help secure reliable and enriching afterschool care for working families to enhance self-sufficiency.

Human Services relies on the community's generosity to help lower-income families positively launch into a new school year. Tax-deductible donations of any amount will directly and positively impact the lives of local children and families. No contribution is too small; every dollar counts in our efforts to support our families in need. Together, we can foster an environment where every student has the tools to thrive academically and achieve their full potential.

Contributions can be made to Human Services in three ways:

- Online at the "We Care Westport" donation portal www.westportct.gov/donate; click "Family to Family Programs - Seasonal Program."

- Checks by mail; payable to the "Town of Westport Human Services" (Family Programs- BTS or Afterschool Program in the memo line), at 110 Myrtle Ave Westport, CT  06880.

- Walmart gift card donations can be dropped off or mailed to Westport Human Services in Room 200 at Town Hall.
