Dear Neighbor,

Significant funds are coming to the Groton and Ledyard Public School Districts, courtesy of the Department of Defense's Education Activity system!

The system, which seeks to provide educational opportunities and services to military dependents around the world, recently awarded 44 grants as part of the Military-Connected Local Educational Agencies for Academic and Support Program.

The Groton Public Schools District received $1.25 million due to the Naval Submarine Base in New London to design and deliver high quality instruction in literacy, the humanities, and STEM to better equip military-connected students for college and career readiness.

The Ledyard Public Schools District received $500,000 due to the Naval Submarine Base, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy,  the U.S. Coast Guard Station, and the 1109 Aviation Classification and Repair Depot in New London to restructure their literacy instruction to embed the Science of Reading strategies to further refine and enhance reading and writing instruction.

One of my top priorities is ensuring all students have access to the best quality education, and this grant from the DoDEA system will be critical for military-connected students in Groton and Ledyard.
