Freight Street Demolition Project

October 20, 2023

Crews have begun tearing down the final remaining building in the Freight Street Corridor. This is the final hurdle before we can move forward with transit-oriented redevelopment including apartments, retail, and offices.

The Freight Street Corridor consists of 20 acres of brownfield contaminated land in the western part of downtown Waterbury in the 75th district. Remediation is underway to make way for our city’s revitalization. Please watch the video below.

This project is so important because not only does it continue the environmental justice cleanup, but it will eventually transform our downtown area. Freight Street is only a five minute walk from the city’s train station and a half mile from the I-84/Route 8 Mixmaster.

Thank you to Governor Ned Lamont, House Speaker Matt Ritter, and the State Bond Commission, in particular Rep. Ron Napoli, for your support in bringing new life, opportunity, and prosperity to Waterbury.
