Sandy Hook, 10 Years Later

December 14, 2022
Like so many of you, I remember exactly where I was 10 years ago today.

I was at the old Charter Oak Elementary School in West Hartford, recruiting and interviewing candidates for the town's inaugural Parent Leadership Training Institute class. I kept receiving phone calls from family living outside of Connecticut, who wanted to know if my kids were okay.

When I heard and learned about what had unfolded at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, I was just shocked. As a former second grade teacher, this seemed unimaginable to me. That tragic event took the lives of so many precious and innocent loved ones. It’s still shocking today, but may we remain awake and aware of how we can do better to address gun violence, mental health issues, isolation and pain.

Let’s keep pressing to do better, because we can, and we must. Time may pass, but we will never forget. 💚
