Pillars of the Black and Puerto Rican Caucus

February 28, 2025
The Black and Puerto Rican Caucus (BPRC) remains committed to driving meaningful progress in Connecticut while empowering and serving the voices of marginalized communities, including those in Waterbury. My colleagues and I stand in unison in our mission to advance policies that uplift Black, Puerto Rican, and Latinos residents, ensuring they have the opportunities and resources needed to thrive.

The BPRC recently unveiled six legislative pillars that will shape our advocacy this session:

  • Education
  • Career advancement
  • Justice
  • Housing
  • Health and human services
  • Economic empowerment and stability
These priorities tackle critical issues such as early childhood education, criminal justice reform, affordable housing, renter’s rights, immigration protections, tax stability, and so much more. Additionally, I strongly support the Trust Act, which upholds humane treatment for all individuals, regardless of immigration status, during these uncertain times.
Earlier this week, the BPRC held a seven-hour public hearing, bringing together organizations, state agencies, and advocates to share their insights and concerns. This open dialogue is essential as we work toward policies that deliver real change.
I urge you to participate in the democratic process by testifying in next week's public hearing. It will be held on Monday at 4:30 p.m. in room 1E of the Legislative Office Building in Hartford. There is an option to testify remotely if you cannot attend in person.
