Dear Neighbor,

Labor Day Weekend is upon us, and I could hear the cheers of parents and a few tears from the kids as school started this week. I truly hope students and teachers have a wonderful year.

Avon's History Museum is hosting its grand opening on Monday, September 1st. Check out the information in the graphic below for their ice cream social and games for all ages.

Exciting news for our Indian Community as the holiday Diwali was signed into law this week as an official state holiday in Connecticut. Diwali is the "Festival of Lights" and is a multi-day celebration for Hindus, Jains, and Sikhs. While celebrations vary by region, they include lighting lamps, feasting, and exchanging gifts among other things.

Senator Honig and I had a great meeting today with All Work CT. Their focus is on acting as a concierge for businesses to learn how they can both support and employ the disability community. More on that in the section below.

Finally, I hope you are enjoying these last weeks of summer and that you have a safe and Happy Labor Day Weekend.

Have a good week,

Eleni

A Great Meeting with All Work CT

Senator Honig and I had an uplifting meeting today with All Work CT at Beanz & Co. in Avon. Ron Perine and Angela Martin of Mintz + Hoke shared their mission and their goals of connecting many more businesses to inclusive employment.

You can learn more at their website HERE. If you have a business that would like to learn more about the possibilities of including people with disabilities in your workplace, I highly recommend reaching out to them.

A CT Holiday: Diwali

Addressing Medical Debt

Connecticut became the first state to help over 120,000 residents pay off medical debt - but many of us are just one car accident, one cancer diagnosis, one house fire, or one chronic disease away from crushing medical debt.

Even if we haven’t personally experienced medical debt, it looms over us and threatens our peace of mind because it’s usually unplanned, unpredictable, unavoidable, and unaffordable. There are steps health care consumers can take to reduce or eliminate medical debt. Please click on the button below to learn more.
