Last week, CT Insider published my op-ed on why Connecticut’s affordable housing law, 8-30g, urgently needs reform. In Bethel, we recently faced a proposal from an out-of-state developer that would have forced a 75-unit building onto a narrow residential street where our fire and police raised serious safety concerns. And we’re not alone. From Cheshire to West Hartford to Simsbury, towns across Connecticut are seeing oversized projects that strain infrastructure, silence local voices, and cut corners on safety. I want to be clear: towns like ours are not against affordable housing. We welcome growth that is safe, sustainable, and truly affordable for working families. But housing should never come at the expense of local control. |
