Litchfield County Housing Affordability Summit and Groundbreaking in Sharon

On Monday, the Litchfield Center for Housing Opportunity held a well-attended event highlighting housing initiatives throughout the region, updates on statewide efforts to provide new resources, and a groundbreaking for the renovation of a building in Sharon that will take on new life providing homes for family.  There are many organizations and individuals s to throughout our region who are working on innovative ways to add affordable housing for those who want to stay and raise their families here.  Many thanks to all that made the event possible.

Rich Bauman (President of Sharon Housing Trust), Sharon First Selectman Casey Flanagan, and Commissioner Seila Mosquera-Bruno of the Department of Housing and I all leaned into the official “groundbreaking” (though really it’s sledgehammers that will likely get used first!)

Update from Access Health CT

Access Health CT (AHCT), the state’s official health insurance marketplace, and the call center remain open for business during the government shutdown. The shutdown does not have an operational impact to Access Health CT or its customers. Financial help, including Advanced Premium Tax Credits, will continue to be available. Please visit their website if you have any questions.

Protecting Yourself from Scams

The Connecticut Department of Revenue Services (DRS) is alerting taxpayers to a new scam where scammers are impersonating the DRS by sending fraudulent text messages. The texts fraudulently claim that you are owed a tax refund from the DRS and require you to provide banking and other information in order to receive the refund.

The DRS will NEVER send taxpayers a text message or seek to obtain information from taxpayers via text. Anyone who has information regarding a tax-related scam is urged to contact DRS by completing a referral form on the agency’s website.

Taxpayers with questions are encouraged to reach out to DRS by telephone at 860-297-5962, Monday through Friday, between 8:30 A.M. and 4:30 P.M. or by email at DRS@ct.gov.

The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) recently shared a newsletter that includes helpful tips about identifying potential scams. If you have any additional questions, please visit the CT DCP website

CTDOT Receives Approval of its National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Plan

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) announced the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has approved Connecticut’s revised plan to utilize funds under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program.

With this approval, the CTDOT has access to $52.5 million allocated to the state to deploy the strategies outlined in its plan. The funding allows Connecticut to expedite the deployment of electric vehicle charging infrastructure and continue its commitment to establish an interconnected charging network, ensuring access and reliability statewide.

To view the approved plan, visit portal.ct.gov/NEVI.
