This is my State Capitol update for the week of October 23.

ICYMI - Federal Railroad Administration Grant

The National Railroad Partnership Program is now open. Over $5 billion is available for communities looking to improve rail crossings or other passenger rail infrastructure. Applications are due Jan. 7, 2026. Click here to learn more. 

ICYMI - Early Voting

Early voting is now open. Voters are now able to cast their vote in the upcoming municipal election.  

Every town and city will have at least one polling place for those who want to cast their ballot before election day.

Here is a list of the locations in the 64th district: 

  • Canaan - Town Hall (108 Main Street, Falls Village, CT  06031)
  • Cornwall - Town Hall (26 Pine Street, Cornwall, CT  06753)
  • Goshen - Town Hall (42 North Street, Goshen, CT 06756)
  • Kent - Town Hall (41 Kent Green Boulevard, Kent, CT  06757)
  • Norfolk - Town Hall (19 Maple Avenue, Norfolk, CT 06058)
  • North Canaan- Town Hall  ( 100 Pease Street, Canaan, CT  06018)
  • Salisbury - Town Hall (27 Main Street, Salisbury, CT  06068)
  • Sharon - Town Hall (63 Main Street, Sharon, CT  06069)
  • Washington - Town Hall (2 Bryan Plaza, Washington Depot, CT  06794)

These polls will be open through November 3rd, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (On October 28th and 30th, it will be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.). Like the regular election day, you must have some form of identification. If you have any questions, please check out the graphic below. 


ICYMI - DEA Prescription Drug Take Back Day 

The DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day will take place on October 25 from 10 AM - 2 PM. On this day, residents will be able to safely and securely dispose of unused or expired medications.

There will be a take back event at the Troop B Barracks in North Canaan. Please see the flyer for more information.

If you are unable to attend on October 25, or if you're  looking for convenient disposal options throughout the year, MyOldMeds.com is a valuable resource. They  offer a free, easy-to-use locator tool that connects residents to the 354 disposal sites across Connecticut.  

ICYMI- Optimum’s 18th Annual Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest

Optimum’s 18th Annual Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest is now accepting entries. Interested applicants must write an essay about their connection to Hispanic culture in 500 words or less. The contest is open to middle and high school students.
 
Essays must be submitted by October 31. Click here to learn more. 

Northwest Corner Events

ICYMI 

Sharon Center School is having a Trunk or Treat next Friday, October 24 at 80 Hilltop Road starting at 4:30 PM

You can drop your candy donation off weekdays from 8am to 4pm at the Main Office at SCS.

The 49th Annual Kent Pumpkin Run will be held on October 26. Click here to register.
