Happy New Year from State Rep. Farley Santos

December 31, 2025

I want to wish everyone a happy, safe and healthy new year. I'm looking forward to a productive 2026 representing Danbury at the State Capitol.

As we close out 2025, Danbury showed its true colors yet again, with residents helping those in need at home (a water main break) and abroad (hurricane relief for Jamaica).

In sports, the the Danbury High girls basketball team and city community continue to show their support for the family of Bella Hope Patterson, a student-athlete who passed away last May.

I've said it before, and I will continue to say it going forward, because it's true: It's an honor to serve this city.

DHS Wins Being Its 'Bella Self'

What a thrilling finish at the Tip-Off Classic on Monday! Danbury High Girls Basketball battled into overtime and came away with the 50–44 Championship Win, congratulations to Coach Jackie DiNardo and the team!

After the game, Coach DiNardo introduced me to Maggie Patterson, mom of student-athlete Bella Hope Patterson, who passed away last May from a rare cancer. Bella’s sister gave me a bracelet that reads “Be Your Bella Self,” the motto carried forward through the Bella Hope Foundation, created in Bella’s memory to support others facing rare pediatric cancers.

As a parent who has also lost a child, I know how deep this pain runs, and I’m inspired by the love, grace, and strength Bella’s family continues to show. If you’d like to learn more about Bella’s story and the work being done in her honor, visit bellahopefoundation.org.

The win was more than a championship, it was a moving tribute to Bella, whose spirit clearly still shines through her teammates and this community.

A Huge Thank You

I'd be remiss if I didn't recognize and thank our first responders and members of the community who stepped up to help -- including distributing water -- during last week's water main break on Sand Pit Hill.

It’s during the holidays that we’re reminded just how much we owe our first responders and public safety teams. While so many of us are able to relax with family, our police, fire, EMS, public works, public utilities, military personnel, emergency dispatchers and others who remain on duty ready to respond when emergencies happen.

Thank you also to Todd and his team at Coca-Cola Beverages Northeast for donating over 38,000 bottles of water to our city. The generous contribution will go a long way in supporting our residents.

A special thank you as well to Boomer and the crew at Modzelewski's Recovery & Heavy Hauling for always stepping up when our community needs it, and to Emergency Management Director Matt Cassavechia for his tireless work keeping Danbury prepared and our residents safe. Proud of the teamwork that makes our city stronger.

Fundraiser for Hurricane Relief

I attended the West Indies Community Club of Danbury fundraiser tonight to support relief efforts for those impacted by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica. Our Jamaican community is strong, proud, and deeply connected, and we must help in this time of dire need. They’ve endured so much loss of life and over $10 billion in damages due to this storm. There’s more we can do to assist.

Thank you to club President Earl Egbert, the volunteers, and Yaad EatsCT for the incredible food. If you’d like to contribute, donations can still be made by clicking here.

Spice City FC Opening Day Victory

Spice City FC kicked off the season in style Monday with a huge 12–4 home win over Salisbury Steaks!

The energy in Danbury Arena was incredible and the kids had an absolute blast. Affordable, family friendly, and nonstop excitement. Come cheer on your hometown team at the next match, tonight (Dec. 30) at 5 p.m.!

Merry Christmas

Peaceful. Blessed. Grateful.

Home feels especially warm this season filled with light, love, and the reminders of friends and family near and far. Wishing everyone a joyful and gentle holiday moment like this one.

As always, if you have any comments, questions or concerns, please reach out to my office.

Sincerely,

Farley Santos
