Updates from State Rep. Nick Menapace for Jan. 6, 2026

January 6, 2026

I hope this message finds you well. I’m writing to let you know that the Connecticut General Assembly’s legislative session is set to begin in the first week of February.

As we prepare for the work ahead, I want to hear directly from you about the issues and priorities that matter most to you and your family. Your input is essential in helping guide my work at the Capitol, and I welcome your thoughts, concerns, and ideas before the session begins.

Opposing Federal Block on AI Protections

When it comes to protecting people, states shouldn’t be silenced.

I joined Republican and Democratic legislators from more than two dozen states to oppose a federal executive order that would block state-level AI protections. Guardrails matter — and bipartisan leadership still exists.

Please take the time to read this article published in CT News Junkie as well as the actual letter here.

Access Health CT Deadline Extended

Access Health CT has extended its final enrollment deadline to Saturday, Jan. 31. Customers who register or renew will have health and dental plan coverage starting Feb. 1.

Connecticut is stepping up by offering financial assistance despite recent federal cuts. Some customers may qualify for new state subsidies or other low- or no-cost coverage options, including the Covered CT Program or HUSKY Health, Connecticut’s Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

Free help to sign up is available online, in person, and over the phone.

Customers can visit AccessHealthCT.com and click the “Get Help” button on the homepage to find the option that works best for them, including scheduling an appointment or finding a nearby Navigator site. Help is available in more than 100 languages.

Please take a look at the call center hours below for more information.

Apply for Heating Assistance

The Generation Power CT (GPCT) Emergency Energy Assistance Program, formerly known as Operation Fuel, is offering a one-time grant of up to $500 to help eligible Connecticut households cover electric, gas, or heating fuel expenses. You can apply for assistance now through Saturday, Jan. 10.

Households with up to 75% of the State Median Income (SMI) may qualify. Approved applicants can apply their grant toward a future fuel delivery or use it to pay down a past-due utility bill.

To make the most of this once-per-year grant, GPCT strongly encourages households to apply when energy assistance is needed most
