Dear Neighbor,

I recently had the opportunity to attend the ribbon cutting at Bradley Memorial Hospital, celebrating both the expansion of geriatric and palliative care services and the relocation and expansion of Hartford HealthCare’s Sleep Center from its West Street location.

These investments represent an important step forward in improving access to specialized, compassionate care in our community. The expanded sleep center now features four sleep care beds and six outpatient treatment rooms, increasing capacity and enhancing the level of care available to patients. At the same time, the growth of geriatric and palliative care services underscores a strong commitment to supporting older adults and individuals facing serious illness.

It was great to see so many dedicated professionals and community partners come together to mark this milestone. I remain committed to supporting the continued growth and improvement of Bradley Memorial Hospital and ensuring our community has access to high-quality, comprehensive care. Thank you to everyone involved in making these critical improvements possible.

Evening of Excellence

This week, I attended the 88th Annual Southington Chamber of Commerce Awards Program, where I had the privilege of presenting several state citations to the awardees. As a member of the Legislature’s Veterans' and Military Affairs Committee, it was an honor to present the Veteran Organization of the Year award to Kiltonic Post 72 American Legion.

I also had the opportunity to speak and present a congratulatory citation to Anthony Denorfia, Southington builder and developer, who was named the Riccio Brothers Business Person of the Year in recognition of his successful career and numerous contributions to the community.

Congratulations to Tony, the American Legion, and all other awardees who were recognized at the event.
 

Greek Independence Day

On March 25, I join my fellow Greek Americans in commemorating the 205th anniversary of the Greek Revolution and the founding of the Hellenic Republic. At an official ceremony at the Capitol, we celebrated not only Greece’s hard-won freedom, but also the enduring contributions Greece has made to the United States. The influence of Greek ideals on American democracy is evident in our system of government and was frequently cited by our Founding Fathers as a source of inspiration.

The Greek diaspora has also given the United States a modern gift—its people. Greek immigrants have drawn on their cultural pride to shape their journey into American society, blending the best of both cultures. This legacy continues today, as Greek Americans embrace opportunity while preserving cherished traditions.

A special shout out to Stavros Papahristou, Cava Restaurant owner, fellow Southington resident, and friend, who attended the official Capitol ceremony as my guest.
 

Update on Veterans Dental Bill

I’m excited to provide an update on legislation I’ve been working on in partnership with the Southington Veterans Committee to expand access to dental care for Connecticut Veterans. 

House Bill 5413 has now been incorporated into a larger, comprehensive proposal — House Bill 5406, the Veterans Heroes Act. This broader bill includes a range of initiatives aimed at improving the health, well-being, and overall quality of life for our Veterans.

I’m pleased to share that I joined my colleagues on the Veterans’ and Military Affairs Committee to unanimously advance the bill, a strong sign of bipartisan support for these important efforts. The next step in the process is consideration on the House floor, where we will debate and vote on the bill.

As we await further action, I encourage you to take a look at the linked op-ed, which I authored alongside committee leadership to help raise public awareness and build support for this legislation. I remain committed to advancing this Southington-led effort and delivering meaningful results for those who have served our country.

Calendar House Listening Tour Stop

The next stop on my Legislative Session Listening Tour will be at The Calendar House on Monday, April 13 at 1:30 p.m. If you live in Southington, I hope you'll join me to share your thoughts, ask questions, and discuss the legislation that matters most to you. These conversations are an important part of my work at the Capitol, and I value hearing directly from you.
 
As an added bonus, we'll have coffee and cake to enjoy together. I look forward to seeing you there!
 

Tree Removal on I-84

Drivers should plan for nighttime delays as crews remove trees along I-84 East between Exits 31 and 34 in Southington and Plainville.

📅 Schedule: Monday, March 30 through Friday, June 5
🕖 Hours: 7:00 p.m. – 5:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday
🚦 Impacts: Overnight lane and ramp closures

Drivers are encouraged to use caution in the work zone and allow extra travel time during these hours.
 

Lions Club Charity Auction

Reminder: Get ready for an exciting night of fun, energy, and giving back! The community is welcome to join the Lions Club of Southington for the 33rd Annual "Everything Goes" Charity Auction tomorrow, Saturday, March 28 at the Calendar House (388 Pleasant Street).

The evening kicks off at 6:15 p.m. with a preview of the many great available items. 30 minutes later, bidding begins with instant rounds, followed by an exciting live auction at 7:15 p.m. where the energy really ramps up and the competition gets going, all in the spirit of maximizing support for a great cause.

All Proceeds benefit the Lions Eye Fund and community service project. Come out, have fun, and make a difference in your community!
 

Egg-citing Adventures

The entire family is welcome to join an Easter Egg Hunt with all kinds of chocolate and desserts! The free event will take place on Saturday, March 28 from 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. on the Plantsville Green. The kids will have an opportunity to take a picture with the Easter Bunny or marvel at a bus blowing bubbles in the park! Please make sure to bring your own basket or container for the egg hunt.

If you miss the egg hunt on the Plantsville Green, Rogers Orchards has got you covered. It will host a similar event from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 28 with a rain date on Sunday, March 29.

The following weekend, Barnes Museum invites the community to explore the grounds in search of colorful Easter eggs filled with candy and small toys. Then, the kids can head inside to meet the Easter Bunny! The event will be held on Saturday, April 4 at 10 a.m. It's free to enter but the museum asks for a $10 donation. Operation Stay Warm

Southington Public Schools and Southington Community Services are sponsoring Operation Stay Warm. This program distributed more than 850 winter coats and accessories to the Southington community last year. Please consider donating new or gently used winter coats and accessories in both adult and children's sizes. 

Southington Community Services will continue to collect and distribute winter coats to those in need at 91 Norton Street in Plantsville during regular business hours (8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.).
 

Spring Concert

Reminder: The Southington Symphonic Band will present its Spring Concert on Monday, March 30 at 7:00 p.m. at Southington High School Auditorium. This free event (donations welcome) will feature a variety of musical selections performed by talented local musicians under the direction of Jeff Shaw.

  • Judiciary Committee: April 2 at 10 a.m.
