Climate Protection Act Bill
Glad to share HB 5004, the 2024 Connecticut Climate Protection Act, a priority for the House Democratic Caucus was voted out of Committee this week.

The bill seeks to respond to the climate crisis by:
1) Updating the Global Warming Solutions Act to make Connecticut's greenhouse gas emissions targets more in line with other states in the region
2) Creating incentives for businesses that engage in clean economy sectors or employ environmentally sustainable practices
3) Developing plans for transitioning to a clean economy, including workforce training and long-term policy implementation
4) Supporting nature-based solutions, such as preserving marshlands and forests
Sustainability is not only the right thing to do but also the smart, economically competitive thing to do.

Connecting Manufacturers With the Next Generation

This week the 5th annual Manufacturer ConneCTion Fair was held at the State Capitol, bringing together manufacturers from across our state and connecting them with the brightest minds of the next generation of innovators.

This year's manufacturer fair also introduced the college career and internship fair, which featured on-the-spot interviews for internships and jobs.

This year's manufacturer fair attracted over 1,100 high school students exploring a career in manufacturing, more than 115 students from 17 different colleges participating in interviews with 50 Connecticut manufacturers and organizations looking to connect with the young talent, and seven robotics teams showing what they are capable of.

I was so proud to see the Bennie Dover Jackson Multi-Magnet Middle School Campus, the New London High School Multi-Magnet Campus, and the STEAM Whalers Team 3719 participating, showing what New London has to offer for our state's flourishing manufacturing industry.

Offshore Wind Projects
Thank you Tina Detelj for informing our community of the Offshore Wind Projects:
Offshore wind projects such as in the City of New London, Connecticut may become more affordable after the Biden Administration announced new support for the industry on Friday.
Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn) said the Biden Administration’s move to expand eligibility for the Inflation Reduction Act will make a bonus tax credit more available. This can allow energy communities like New London to become a hub for the offshore wind industry.
