Dear Neighbor,

Hearing from the New London Youth
I am so proud, I can not speak highly enough about the youth.

Approximately 25 youth came to the Legislative Office Building to speak on Legislative Bills that will affect them and youth after them. The youth eloquently spoke on data relating to education, low income families, student homelessness and other issues that can and will make it hard for them if adults fail to act in their best interest.

Thank you also to students that traveled to the State Capitol from other regions to share similar concerns.

Nationwide Veterans March
Had the great opportunity to join neighbors, friends, families and advocates along Local veterans that took to the streets Friday as part of the nationwide Veterans March, rallying against the potential consequences of of Washington on vital jobs, support programs for former service members.

The Guardians of Democracy , a local advocacy group, led the demonstration, demanding stronger protections for veterans and opposing the proposed federal Department of Government Efficiency. The group voiced deep concerns over potential cuts to veterans' healthcare and the risk of mass firings of veterans in government positions.

New London Senior Citizens Center Event

Thank you so much to everyone that turned out for my event at the New London Senior Citizens Center. It was great to hear from you about the issues that matter most - these are amazing conversations that I take with me in my work at the State Capitol.

Funding for the Garde Arts Center

In last week's Community Innovation Fund 2030 board meeting, I was thrilled to see New London projects receive $4 million for the Garde Arts Center, Inc. to renovate and expand the Mercer Community Hall to offer affordable event space, support arts and workforce opportunities, and retain activities within the city

The Community Investment Fund seeks to help develop historically underserved communities, and the funding of these two projects will help bring our community together and provide much needed resources to our residents.

Rollin' with Rep. Nolan - Department of Aging and Disability Services' Amy Porter

On this week's Rollin' with Rep. Nolan, I was joined by Amy Porter, Commissioner of the Department of Aging and Disability Services (Aging Disability CT).

Amy told me the department's mission is to maximize opportunities for the independence and wellbeing of people with disabilities and older adults.

They offer a range of programs and services, covering employment, education, independent living, advocacy, and much more.

Among other things, Amy and I discussed avoiding scams, career advancement, and how to collaborate with other agencies to provide the best services to our senior and disabled residents.
