Ribbon Cutting at the School-Based Health Center
I recently had the great opportunity to say a few words with colleagues State Representative Aundré Bumgardner and State Representative Holly Cheeseman at a ribbon cutting celebrating the new School-Based Health Center at Ella T. Grasso Tech High School. This center marks a new partnership with the Connecticut Technical Educational System!
Thank you to Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut, staff and those who came out to make this such a great event.
 
Centro Cristiano Internacional Anniversary
I had an amazing time celebrating with Centro Cristiano Internacional on their 63rd Anniversary. Thank you for your presence and vision in the City of New London, Connecticut We truly appreciate the love you give & share throughout our community.

I was delighted to join leaders of the Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut to discuss a range of topics, including their Urgent Crisis Center, the importance of mental health care for children and parents, and much more. Supporting Arts Program Grant Recipients
A big congratulations to all of the New London businesses awarded funding from the Department of Economic and Community Development's Supporting Arts program. This grant is flexible and allows each business to use the funds where they are most needed.
 
Natchaug’s 1st Annual Military Mental Health Symposium
I had the great opportunity to attend the Natchaug’s 1st Annual Military Mental Health Symposium - Understanding the Importance of Military Service and Identity. Thank you to Hartford Healthcare and many hands that helped make this come to fruition.

Had the great opportunity to meet at Mitchell College in the City of New London, Connecticut to plan the
"Let's Let OUR Voices Be Heard! " with student organizer Inonda Peterson and a team of leaders planning events for Black History Month.

CT Cannabis Social Equity Council and Community Foundation of Eastern CT Grants
This week I was had the great opportunity to see the CT Cannabis Social Equity Council and the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut give out $1 million in grants to causes based in Norwich, New London, and Willimantic.

 
These funds are part of the pilot program from the Social Equity Council, which distributed grants to entities in impacted communities and will help the Social Equity Council further distribute funds from the cannabis industry. Thank you to the Social Equity Council & Social Equity Council Director Ginnie-Rae Clay.
This week an overall $1 million from revenue generated by the state’s cannabis program and overseen by the Connecticut Social Equity Council was distributed by the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut. The community reinvestment program also focuses on reentry and reintegration programs that support formerly incarcerated individuals and their families.
The grants were announced Tuesday to recipients included: Alliance for Living; Big Brothers Big Sisters of CT; Community Level Up; Castle Church; Connecticut Legal Services; Connecticut Pardon Team; Eastern Connecticut State University - Center for Community Engagement; Hispanic Alliance of Southeastern Connecticut; Madonna Place; NAACP of Connecticut; New London Homeless Hospitality; New London Youth Affairs; Norwich Youth & Family Services; Perception Programs; Project IMO; Public Library of New London; Sankofa Education & Leadership; S.T.E.P.S.

New London Whalers - Rivalry Champs!
Congratulations to City of New London, Connecticut New London Whalers football team taking the win against Norwich Free Academy in the nation’s oldest high school football rivalry New London Whalers win 35-13. Great job to all the players in this great game.

Connecticut Paid Leave Event
Connecticut Paid Leave coming to the City of New London, Connecticut for a info session and application assistance event.
Date: Tuesday, December 5, 2023
Time: 5PM-6:30 PM.
Did you know that in Connecticut you can take time off from work to care for personal or family health needs without risking your paycheck?
Join the Connecticut Paid Leave Authority at the Meriden Public Library for an Informational Session to learn more about the CT Paid Leave program, including eligibility, covered reasons for leave and how to apply for benefits.
Staff will provide an overview of CT Paid Leave and will also be available to answer individual questions and assist with filing an online claim application.
Registration is requested but WALK INS ARE WELCOME!
 
"A Magical Evening of Giving" Event
Reminder to Join us this Saturday, December 2nd at 6pm for "A Magical Evening Of Giving" benefiting Safe Futures!
The highlight of the evening will be a captivating live auction, featuring a collection of fully decorated themed holiday trees.
There will also be live music, refreshments, and cocktails. The event will be held at New London Elks Club (81 Washington St, New London).
