Dear Neighbor,
Martin Luther King Jr. Day
On Monday we honor one of our nation’s most important visionaries and reflect on how his lessons and his story resonate today.

As we approach the weekend, let’s take a moment to reflect on and celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His leadership led to the success of the civil rights movement, and his actions played a pivotal role in making progress toward racial equality.

Dr. King continues to inspire and affect racial progress today. His work paved the way for positive change, fostering a society that values justice, equality, and human rights.

This weekend serves as an opportunity for all of us to commemorate Dr. King’s legacy. We can recommit ourselves to unity and justice while contributing to the ongoing pursuit of civil rights.

New London Spotlight: Custom House Maritime Museum
New London Custom House was built in 1835 at the height of the City’s maritime power when New London was the second-greatest whaling port in the world and designed by architect Robert Mills. Best-known for his design of the Washington Monument in DC, this is the nation’s oldest continuously operated U.S. Custom House and scene to much of the area’s maritime history.
Today it is home to the New London Maritime Society Custom House Maritime Museum. Telling the stories of New London’s waterfront, the museum has permanent exhibits on whaling and the Amistad along with artifacts relating to local lighthouses and U.S. Customs, changing exhibitions.
Be sure to stop in the Museum Shop, which is filled with treasures for all occasions. Open Wed-Sun from 1pm-5pm and Saturday from 10am-5pm.
