Dear Neighbor,
Statement on Church Collapse
Today, State Rep. Christine Conley and I released the following statement on yesterday's collapse of the Engaging Heaven Church:

“We are heartbroken by the devastating collapse of the Engaging Heaven Church. This building is one of the oldest and most beautiful pieces of architecture New London has to offer, and the damage is felt throughout the community.

But we are even more inspired by the efforts of our amazing first responders, local officials, Governor Ned Lamont, and our community as whole, whose efforts have kept the residents of New London safe.

We are grateful there were no injuries, and are certain that together, this amazing city will emerge stronger than ever.

At this time, we advise residents to adhere to local guidance. We will stay in touch with more information as it arises."

Banning the Trade and Sale of Ivory Press Conference
This week I attended a press conference with members of the Humane Society and the Animal Advocacy Caucus about banning the trade and sale of ivory. There were 169 pieces of suspected ivory found in 29 stores across our state.

This ivory comes as a result of disturbing animal abuse, and it was shocking to see these numbers so high in our state. I join my colleagues in advocating for a full ban of the trade and sale of this product. It is our responsibility to make sure this practice has no place in Connecticut.

End Hunger Connecticut! Press Conference
It was an honor to join my colleagues and friends from End Hunger Connecticut! for a press conference on the importance of providing free meals for our students.

It is extremely important for us to provide funding for school children to eat breakfast and lunch. We are not just filling their stomachs, but also their potential. Let's ensure every child has the nourishment they need to concentrate on learning, not on hunger pains.

You can watch my statement at the press conference here.

Rollin' with Rep. Nolan - End Hunger Connecticut!'s Lucy Nolan
On this week's Rollin' with Rep. Nolan, I was joined by Lucy Nolan, policy director of End Hunger Connecticut! We talked about the physical and mental benefits of providing meals for kids every morning, the importance of providing FRESH food for our kids, and the work we plan on doing in the upcoming legislative session to address this issue. Thank you again to Lucy Nolan for joining me for this critical conversation!

New London's State Pier Helping Develop Offshore Wind Projects
It is a milestone that would not have happened without New London's State Pier, where the turbines are staged and pre-assembled.
Orsted and Eversource are partnering to build three offshore wind projects. The first is South Fork Wind and two more are planned on its heels. The turbines for each project are staged and pre-assembled in New London.

Big congratulations to City of New London, Connecticut Phil Michalowski who was honored with a CT Arts Hero Award this week.
