Dear Neighbor,

Recently, I had the privilege of volunteering at the 2nd Annual Valentine’s Day Celebrity Gala, and what an unforgettable night it was. It was truly an honor to be part of such a joyful celebration for our specially-abled adults.

Seeing everyone dressed to the nines, lighting up the dance floor, and sharing so many smiles was incredibly inspiring. The energy in the room was contagious, and the sense of love, inclusion, and community was unmistakable.
Valentine's Day Celebrity Gala

A heartfelt thank you to the organizers, volunteers, and everyone who made this incredible evening possible, and to all who came out to celebrate. Events like this remind us just how powerful community can be.

Please continue reading below for other noteworthy items, and thanks as always for taking the time to read them!

Troops to Trades

Last week, I attended a public informational hearing on one of the Veteran Committee’s priority bills, which focuses on helping veterans transition into careers in the skilled trades. We heard from nonprofits, labor leaders, and industry partners about current workforce efforts and how the state can better support and coordinate pathways for veterans, while maintaining strong industry standards.

The goal of “Troops to Trades” is simple: remove barriers, strengthen partnerships, and ensure those who served our country have clear opportunities to succeed in Connecticut’s workforce. I look forward to supporting this proposal in the coming months as it moves through the stages of the legislative process.

Great Turnout at the Lions Den

It was great to see so many residents attend my Legislative Session Listening Tour stop at the Lions Den Coffee House despite the snowy weather. I appreciated the thoughtful questions and engaging discussion on newly proposed bills, school financing, energy assistance, and other key issues.

I am grateful for the Lions Den for hosting and to everyone who came out to share their priorities and ideas. Your input plays an important role in shaping my work at the Capitol. Stay tuned for announcements on upcoming tour stops.

Knightchat

I enjoyed my conversation with Southington High School's (SHS) robotics team on its podcast KnightChat: FIRST on Air. The CyberKnights welcomed me with open arms, and we discussed the legislative efforts that support the pipeline from robotics programs to careers in manufacturing, amongst other relevant topics.

Southington Strong

As many know, the Southington community is thrilled that Austin Florian, a graduate of the SHS Class of 2012, is representing Team USA at the Winter Olympics in Italy.

Florian finished twelfth in the men's singles skeleton on Friday and seventh in the skeleton mixed team event on Sunday. His time over the weekend was a personal best paired with the fastest start of the night. He made us proud while representing both our town and country at the Olympics!

SNAP Update

Connecticut passed new legislation requiring the Department of Social Services to spread out SNAP benefit issuance dates throughout the month rather than concentrating them in the first few days. This change, taking effect on March 1, will help reduce congestion at retailers and improve the overall client experience.

Preschool & Kindergarten Registration – Fall 2026

Registration for Fall 2026 preschool and kindergarten is underway or starting soon.

In Memoriam

I was saddened to learn of the passing of Bob Hammersley, who faithfully served Southington as Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission. He led with integrity and a deep love for our community. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family. Bob’s legacy of service will not be forgotten.
