Updates from State Rep. Chris Poulos - December 20, 2024

December 20, 2024

This week, I had the privilege of visiting the Southington Armory, where Southington Community Services organizes their annual Christmas gift drive. I was extremely impressed by the well-coordinated operation, which will provide more than 500 households with a bag of presents, including a gift for each family member. They also have a room of extra gifts available for last-minute needs or requests.
These items were generously donated by local organizations and residents, and the effort is supported by numerous dedicated volunteers. Thank you to everyone who has contributed for your generosity, hard work, and kindness in making the holiday season brighter for so many families in our community!
As always, if I can be of assistance, please reach out to me at 860-240-8585.

The Bell Still Rings For Many
Tis the Season! It was great to see so many neighbors and friends while ringing the Salvation Army Bell at Tops Market last weekend.

An added bonus was having my dad join me as a guest ringer for portion of my shift. The contributions that were received are yet another example of the generosity of our residents toward those most in need during the holiday season.

Thank you to all!

Mysterious Drones
Many residents have contacted me with questions regarding reports of drone sightings over Connecticut and our neighboring states.

This week the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP) shared that they are monitoring numerous recent reports of large drone sightings across the state.

The Connecticut State Police (CSP) use portable and fixed drone sensing systems, and a detailed reporting process is in place to collect information. The Connecticut Intelligence Center (CTIC) is analyzing sightings alongside FAA flight data, with most cases linked to legal private sector drones or manned aircraft.

Commissioner Ronnell A. Higgins emphasized the importance of safety, noting collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies, including the TSA and FBI. While DESPP cannot take down drones, operators must comply with altitude, visibility, and licensing rules.

Christmas in the Village
Last week marked yet another successful Christmas in the Village event!

The tree looked spectacular and the residents who attended enjoyed the festivities.

Thank you to the Plantsville businesses, sponsors and volunteers who made the event possible for our community.
