Dear Neighbor,

I am grateful for the friends I’ve made through my advocacy efforts as your State Representative.

This past weekend, I was invited to serve as a panelist at the Connecticut Association of the Deaf's (CAD) Legislative 101 Workshop that took place at the American School for the Deaf.  CAD President Luisa Soboleski is a resident and member of Southington’s Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing Community.

Over the last year, I have met with Luisa and her husband Richard to learn about what the State of Connecticut can do to address their most critical issues. On the panel, I shared with workshop participants how to most effectively advocate for their legislative priorities. I am proud to support Southington’s deaf residents and look forward to further advocacy efforts during the upcoming legislative session.

Please continue reading below for other noteworthy items, and thanks as always for taking the time to read them!

Bright Lights Christmas Festival

I had a wonderful time at the Bright Lights Christmas Festival. Charlotte Rusate did a great job lighting up our town tree and the bonfire kept us warm. Other activities included a Polar Express Train Ride, Candy Cane Scavenger Hunt, access to Santa Claus, and a Magic Show on the mobile stage. Thank you to the organizers and sponsors for a fun night out ... the event was truly a community effort!

DECD Grant for SoCCA

Congratulations to Southington Community Cultural Arts (SoCCA) for receiving a $4220 award from The Supporting Arts Grant program. The purpose of these grants is to provide general support to arts organizations and municipal arts departments. Funds can be used for production costs, materials and supplies, advertising, marketing, printing, and other related expenses. For more information about the program, click here.

Thank you SoCCA for all you do to promote the arts in Southington.

Record Journal Commentary

Serving as your State Representative is a privilege and an honor that involves a lot of time, hard work, and striking a healthy balance between my family, my teaching job, and representing our community.

Please click here to read my recent op-ed in the Record-Journal (registration or subscription may be required) where I reflect on my experience representing our town at the State Capitol in Hartford. I’ve learned a lot since being sworn in last January and my focus has been on advocating for what’s best and right for Southington. Determining “what’s best” has involved interacting with constituents and hearing about their hopes and challenges.

Hello, December

Just like that ... December is here!
