Dear Neighbor, With the 2025 legislative session behind us, I set out this week visiting neighborhoods across the 81st District and reconnecting directly with residents. For me, there’s no better way to stay in touch than meeting you where you are—at your doors, on our sidewalks, and inside the small businesses that keep Southington thriving. As I make my way through town, it has been very helpful to hear your concerns and learn about your ideas for how we can keep Southington moving forward. I’ve also appreciated the chance to answer your questions and provide an in-person recap of the recent legislative session, highlighting new laws and initiatives that will impact our community. |
Along the way, I’ve been stopping into local businesses, including Hardcore Sweet Bakery at Factory Square. I’ve enjoyed talking with owners and employees about their needs, challenges, and the ways I can advocate for them at the Capitol.
Whether you have a specific issue in mind, want to learn more about legislation, or just want to say hello, I look forward to seeing you in the days and weeks ahead. Please continue reading below for other noteworthy items, and thanks as always for taking the time to read them! |

| Making Space for Innovation |
| This past session, I was proud to support the Connecticut Community Makerspace Initiative (SB 1179), a new law that invests in our local innovators and small businesses. The initiative creates a pilot program through the Department of Economic and Community Development to help fund the creation or expansion of community makerspaces—shared spaces where entrepreneurs can develop new products, learn valuable skills, and grow early-stage businesses. By supporting makerspaces, we’re investing in workforce training, economic development, and the creative spirit that makes our communities thrive. I’m excited to see how this program will help local businesses and entrepreneurs succeed! |

| For parents looking for engaging opportunities for teens this summer, there’s a fantastic free option to check out. A Connecticut nonprofit, Upptik Gives, is offering an online Career Club running from July 8 to 26. Unlike a class, there are no grades, assignments, or set hours — teens can participate whenever it fits their schedule. Through the program, they’ll connect with college-age mentors, ask real questions about careers and college life, and even build a digital resumé to use for school or job applications. It’s a low-pressure, flexible way for teens to spend productive time online instead of endlessly scrolling. Scan the QR code below to learn more and sign up. |

Today, June 27, is PTSD Awareness Day, during which we honor the strength of survivors and reaffirm our commitment to supporting their healing. Connecticut continues to lead with compassion — expanding access to mental health services, strengthening trauma-informed care, and championing our veterans and first responders. Together, we are building a state where no one faces PTSD alone.
