Community Steps Up For South End Fire Victims

May 24, 2017

Waterbury firefighters, community organizations and residents have stood strong in dealing with the aftermath of the Loundsbury Street fire.

Twelve families were displaced in the devastating fire in the South End of Waterbury. The four homes have been demolished by the city.

This fire could have been worse if not for the incredible work of Waterbury firefighters. The fire could have easily spread to other homes. Waterbury’s Bravest kept the blaze contained. In my humble opinion, they saved the entire neighborhood from further devastation and losses. The conditions were prime for great havoc and damage. Their quick and strategic work saved many other structures from further damage.

We have heard from volunteers and received donations from people throughout Waterbury and across Connecticut. I want to thank the Hispanic Coalition of Greater Waterbury for quarterbacking relief efforts for the displaced residents.
