Electric Bill Prices Going Up in 2026

I know many families are already feeling the pinch this season, so I want to share an important update and, more importantly, the resources available to help.
Starting January 1, the supply portion of electric bills for Eversource will increase. This winter's higher energy demand combined with limited natural gas supply contribute to higher electricity costs statewide.

Most Eversource customers will see about a 10.5% increase in their total bill, largely due to a 29% jump in supply rates. The savings we secured by reducing public benefit charges in the last legislative session unfortunately are not enough to offset the higher supply costs.

But help available, and I want to make sure you know some of your options.

Eversource offers five discount tiers based on your household income or the type of public assistance benefit you receive. These discounts can significantly reduce monthly bills. CLICK HERE for more details.

The Connecticut Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) can also help with as much as $645 in savings, depending on income, household size, and heating source. You can apply only by clicking here.

Additionally, New Opportunities Inc. in Waterbury may be able to provide added support. You can contact the organization at (203) 756-8151.

If you qualify for CEAP, Eversource’s Matching Payment Program can help you get back on track: for every dollar you pay and every dollar provided by CEAP, Eversource matches it with another dollar toward reducing your balance.

No one should have to choose between keeping warm and keeping up. If you have any questions, please reach out. I’m here to help.

Waterbury Housing Resource & Education Expo

It was an honor to attend the annual Greater Waterbury Housing Expo, a pivotal community event for connecting residents with housing resources and education. I joined the community in speaking with housing service providers, advocates, and local businesses to get connected on a variety of vital topics including affordable housing, lending opportunities, and much more.

I stopped by the Connecticut Green Bank, which invests in clean energy and energy-efficient projects to make our homes and buildings more affordable, sustainable, and resilient. Together, we can help move Waterbury toward more equitable and stable housing with lower energy costs.

New Sculpture at Platt Park

The next time you walk or drive by Platt Park in the Waterbury's south end, you will notice a beautiful new sculpture celebrating one of the city’s most defining elements — water. This artwork reflects the strength, resilience, and vitality that water has long represented in Waterbury's identity.

Thank you to Italian artists Eduardo Giannattasio and Raffaele Falcone for their remarkable talent and vision. I am also deeply grateful to Mr. Joseph Pisani for his collaboration and generous support of the arts, and to Mrs. Judy Mancini as well as Miss Jennifer Rose for their leadership and dedication in bringing this project to life. Their commitment has truly enriched our public art landscape.
