Honoring the Life & Legacy of Gov. Jodi Rell & Rep. Joe Serra

December 4, 2024
The entire state of Connecticut is mourning the loss of two exemplary public servants who devoted their lives to improving everyone’s quality of life in our state. I offer my deepest condolences to the families of former Governor M. Jodi Rell and former State Representative Joseph Serra, Sr. Both of these exceptional leaders were genuine, warm, and caring and made a huge difference in their communities and across Connecticut.

Former Governor Jodi Rell was a pioneer and a role model, especially for women who wanted to reach for the stars. Rell led with a calm, rational, and graceful approach in order to foster economic and social growth our state. Her integrity and compassion brought stability to state government at a very difficult time. She helped rebuild the trust of constituents by focusing on strengthening state ethics laws.

I had the honor of serving in the State House with Representative Joseph Serra. He was a fiercely loyal, hardworking, and smart advocate who would do anything for his family, friends, and constituents. He loved people of all ages and backgrounds and helping his community. Serra worked to expand access to education and supported seniors by passing legislation allowing them to age in place, which gave seniors and families the option of staying at home as long as possible.

We will all miss Governor Jodi Rell and Representative Joseph Serra , who left the state a better place. Their legacy will live on in the policies they championed, the communities they helped uplift, and the countless individuals they inspired. Their contributions will continue to benefit the state for generations to come.
