Student Loan Help Available

Connecticut residents who made student loan payments last year can apply for assistance now. The Connecticut Student Loan Reimbursement Program has opened a new round of grants to provide financial relief to eligible residents across the state.

Applicants may quality for reimbursement grants of up to $5,000 per year, with a maximum of $20,000 over four years. Each year, the program opens a new grant cycle to reimburse student loan payments made during the previous calendar year.

By helping offset student loan payments, the program eases financial pressure and allows participants to focus on long-term stability and opportunity. Just as importantly, this initiative plays a key role in retaining home-grown talent here in Connecticut.

You must submit an application online through the CT Scholars portal along with the required documentation. CLICK HERE for step-by-step instructions.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact the Connecticut Office of Higher Education at OHE.SLRP@ct.gov

Applications will be reviewed on a first come first serve basis through December 2026 or until funds are exhausted.

Waterbury African American Mayor for Day

I was proud to join the community in celebrating Carolyn Highsmith as Waterbury's 2026 African American Mayor of the Day. It's an honor that reflects a lifetime of service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to others. Carolyn has dedicated her life to uplifting students, fostering opportunity, and creating welcoming, inclusive spaces where everyone feels seen, valued, and supported.

Carolyn spent decades as a teacher at John F. Kennedy High School, where she made a lasting impact on generations of students. She continues to make a difference through Waterbury’s Adult Education program, helping learners of all ages pursue their goals, build confidence, and open new doors.

Members of the Waterbury delegation were proud to present Carolyn a citation congratulating her on this award. Her decades of service through civic, cultural, and faith-based organizations speak to her deep and enduring commitment to public service.

Access Health CT's Record Enrollment

A record number of people enrolled in health and dental plans through Access Health CT for the third consecutive year. More than 157,000 residents signed up for coverage during open enrollment, which ran from November 1, 2025 through January 31, 2026, marking a 4% increase over last year.

Enrollment in dental coverage also reached a new high. Access Health CT now provides dental insurance to more than 19,000 people, representing a 9% increase compared to 2025.

This Open Enrollment Period occurred amid several changes at both the state and federal levels. Despite those shifts, Connecticut achieved record-breaking enrollment, thanks in large part to expanded outreach and education efforts that helped connect more residents with the coverage they need.

The results underscore Connecticut's continued commitment to expanding access to affordable, quality health care for individuals and families across the state.
