Court Blocks Citizenship Question On Census

January 15, 2019

As I have said for some time now, a citizenship question on the Census 2020 was unnecessary and an assault on Latinos, immigrants and our democracy. A citizenship question would have severely impacted census participation to the detriment of federal funding and our voice in Congress.

I had previously joined with Latino legislators across the country to denounce the decision to include a citizenship question on the upcoming #2020census. I am pleased to see this positive outcome due to all of those efforts.

Please be sure I will continue to monitor this issue closely so efforts to keep the question off the census continue to hold true. We will keep the pressure up on the Trump Administration to thwart any actions to fight this decision.
