9/11 Memorial Ceremony in Connecticut
|
|
|
Next Thursday, we remember the 2,996 lives lost on September 11, 2001, the thousands who have died since due to exposure to toxic chemicals, and the countless lives that were forever changed. May we never forget the people whose lives were stolen from us through this act of terror, and all of the first responders, construction crews, service members, and everyday citizens who saved lives and helped our country rebuild.
Connecticut’s annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony was held yesterday in Sherwood Island State Park in Westport.
Every year, the State of Connecticut intentionally holds its official memorial ceremony several days prior to the actual anniversary in order to accommodate the family members and friends of the victims. Because Connecticut is in such close proximity to New York City, many family members and friends who live in the state choose to also attend the annual ceremony that is held at the site of the World Trade Center on September 11. Scheduling Connecticut’s ceremony on a different day makes it easier for those who wish to attend both ceremonies.
Though we move further away from that fateful day each year, we must continue to honor those Americans we lost and never stop the fight against terror and for peace. |

VJ Celebration in Milford
|
|
|
Earlier this week, I attended a Victory over Japan Day celebration on the Milford Green. VJ Day celebrates the official end of World War II - on September 2, 1945, Japan signed formal surrender documents aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay.
Thank you to all who served and sacrificed for our country, and to the Veterans, Ceremony and Parade Commission for putting together such a meaningful tribute. |

AFL-CIO’s Labor Day Breakfast

| Last week, I attended the AFL-CIO’s annual Labor Day breakfast! It was great to catch up with so many union members and champions, as well as share experiences from this past legislative session. |

Beginning on January 1, 2026, Connecticut’s minimum wage will increase from the current rate of $16.35 per hour to $16.94 per hour.
The change is required under a state law signed in 2019 that connects the state’s minimum wage to economic indicators, specifically the percentage change in the federal employment cost index. The Connecticut Department of Labor reports that the employment cost index increased by 3.6% over the 12-month period ending on June 30, which accounts for a $0.59 increase to the state’s minimum wage.
No full-time worker should be stuck in poverty. This is a fair increase that helps individuals and families gain stability and puts money back into our local businesses and communities.

Wrong Way Detection Activations in Milford
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) announced that a wrong way detection activation will take place in multiple municipalities, including Milford. The project is set to take place from Monday, September 8 through Wednesday, September 10. The Wrong Way Detection System uses video cameras to detect vehicles that are traveling in the wrong direction. If a vehicle is detected, wrong way signs outlined with multiple sets of red lights are activated and begin flashing to alert the driver they are traveling in the wrong direction. Additionally, the system alerts the CTDOT Highway Operations Center and local State Police Troop barracks in real-time, allowing staff to monitor the activities of the wrong way driver on the ramp.
The system will be added on I-95 North and Southbound at Exit 34 in Milford The work schedule for this project is from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., Monday night to Wednesday morning. Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
