No Transit Fare Increases Or Service Cuts

May 22, 2018

Great news for New Haven commuters who use Metro North and CT Transit buses. The governor and state Department of Transportation have announced that fare hikes and service cuts will NOT go into effect as planned on July 1.

Our bipartisan budget agreement – already signed into law – provides sufficient funding to make up for a shortfall in the Special Transportation Fund (STF). With fund partially restored, at least for the time being, the DOT is able to hold back on a 10 percent fare increase for trains and 14 percent for buses. Major rail and bus service reductions have also been avoided. Additional steps still must be implemented over the long term so DOT can continue to offer affordable fares and services.
