Walker Welcomes Students To The Capitol
This week I welcomed to the Legislative Office Building students from the East Rock Record, a team of middle school students who work with high school and college student mentors to write and host press conferences on pressing issues in their communities.
Each spring, these students travel to the State Capitol to speak with and interview lawmakers and meet reporters in the press-room. As vice principal of New Haven Adult Education Center, I work with young people every day, and have learned how important it is for students to begin realizing and pursuing their passions from an early age.
I applaud the East Rock Journalism Program and similar programs that are providing our youngest citizens with practical skills training and a quality education.
