As Bridgeport residents gathered to mark Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy, state Rep. Andre Baker and members of Project Longevity advocated for initiatives that prevent one less person from falling victim to gun violence.

In September, MGM Resorts International announced its plans for a $675 million casino and entertainment complex in Bridgeport's Steelpointe Harbor area. While this project may enhance the vibrancy of our city's downtown, I want to know if this is a project you would support. Following the legislature’s approval of technical revisions to the bipartisan budget passed last month, older and disabled renters are slated to receive their state refund checks under the Connecticut Renters’ Rebate Program.

Under the bipartisan $41.3 billion state budget passed Oct. 26, a pilot program will be established for the development and construction of a combined heat and power facility that will provide waste heat for a thermal heating loop in downtown Bridgeport.

The Republicans' two-year budget is unbalanced, relies on unrealistic savings and contains significant cuts to higher education. Their spending package would also slash vital services and programs that our most vulnerable residents rely on. I stood in opposition to their budget proposal and voted "No" because not only does this spending plan hurt our most vulnerable residents, but it also contradicts Connecticut's fundamental values.

Several new pieces of legislation that will help improve the quality of life in Connecticut went into effect Saturday, July 1.

During the 2017 legislative session, the legislature passed a bill that will create a "Connecticut-made" logo that will allow consumers to easily know the product they are using originated in our state.
