I had a great experience joining my CT State Legislature colleagues at the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Legislative Summit in Boston in early August. This was a wonderful opportunity to meet and connect with leaders from across the country who are working to make a difference in their communities. I attended the American Irish State Legislative Caucus meeting, where I had the chance to speak with Irish Senate Chairman Mark Daly about his 2024 initiative to create the Ireland Trade Commission that Connecticut joined.
Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords gave an inspiring speech about the importance of this field and the work we do, and she delivered a strong message of hope for progress. I am grateful for the opportunity to attend events like NCSL and to meet and collaborate with dedicated legislators from different states. I look forward to learning from and working alongside legislators from across the Nation in the future. |

| American Irish State Legislators Caucus Summit |
|
|
In August, I had an excellent and productive trip to Ireland, where I visited the cities of Dublin and Belfast to attend the American Irish State Legislators Caucus Summit alongside 150 other state legislators from the US. This was a great opportunity to foster and strengthen the longstanding relationship between the US and Ireland. I had the chance to meet with Ireland's Senate Chairman Mark Daly again, who was the Summit leader and a wonderful host for this event.
I also had the pleasure of meeting our new US Ambassador to Ireland, Edward Walsh, and former Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Bertie Ahern. The summit included informative panels during which we heard from government, higher education, business and industry association leaders about the future of these industries and where there is room for growth and potential collaboration between our governments. This was a chance to discuss our strong and continuing partnership in commerce, with more than 900 US companies with global headquarters located in Ireland, these connections have become an important gateway to the European Union. The summit had a great sense of mutual partnership in preserving prosperity and peace. This was an amazing opportunity to make connections with colleagues from across the US and in Ireland. And I had a great time catching up with my Irish family! |

I know many residents have questions about the roadwork along I-95, and commuters should plan to continue to see construction in the area.
The paving project, which extends from Exit 7 in Stamford to the New York State line, has presented unique challenges that the DOT has needed to address while completing the project. The asphalt being used in the project is designed to provide a stronger, longer-lasting pavement surface. The enhanced durability is expected to reduce the frequency of future resurfacing work in this corridor. The DOT team has been working diligently, and substantial completion is currently scheduled for November 2025.
The project at Exits 6 and 7 along I-95 involves construction of an auxiliary lane on I-95 SB from Exit 7 to Exit 6 in Stamford to provide operational improvements and also includes resurfacing, bridge, and safety improvements on I-95 in both directions between these Exits. The current construction includes permanent lighting installation, drainage upgrades, and placement of the new median barrier. Once these are complete, final paving operations are scheduled to begin in early October and continue through early December. The project remains on schedule and is anticipated to reach substantial completion by the end of December.
As CTDOT continues work along I-95, I will be in contact with their team about the current project updates and will provide updates on any traffic changes and important information about the project completions. |
