Connecticut's Agricultural Roots Remain Strong
March 26, 2025Did you know that Connecticut farms employ 30,000 people and generate $4 billion each year for our state's economy?
As part of National Agriculture Week, "Ag Day" at the State Capitol was held recently as a way to celebrate our local farms, farmers' markets, and all the businesses that provide locally grown products for us all to enjoy.
The event featured more than 40 agricultural organizations showcasing the diverse array of farming activities, nutrition programs, and careers in agriculture that are thriving in our state.
We encourage everyone to seek out CT Grown products by visiting a farm store, farm stand, farmers’ market, or restaurant that offers locally grown food and farm products. With over 5,500 producers in the state, you can find fresh, high-quality products right next door.
There are so many ways to discover the agricultural wonders throughout Connecticut:

- Explore the CT Grown Trail for suggested day trips to find locally produced farm fresh food options, dining venues with locally sourced menu items, wine offerings, and more!
- Visit a local Farmers' market.
- Sign up for a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) subscription for in-season fruits, vegetables, cut flowers and more, or add home delivery of milk, yogurt, meats, and more.
- Engage in "Agritourism" with pick-your-own activities such as a maple syrup weekend, tulips and daffodils in the spring, berries throughout the summer, apples and pumpkins in the fall, and Christmas trees in the winter.
- Thank a Farmer! Show your appreciation by writing a thank you note, posting on social media, or sharing your story of how local farmers positively impact your life.
