A Green New Deal for Connecticut

February 22, 2019

The state took its first step in potentially introducing a Green New Deal to invest in renewable energy and green technology. House Bill 5002, An Act Concerning the Development of a Green New Deal, came before the Energy and Technology Committee for a Public Hearing.

If passed, the bill would allow the state to create new programs and provide additional funding for new and existing services concerning energy efficiency, the deployment of renewable energy resources, sustainability initiatives and resilience of the electric grid and coastal protection.

During the Public Hearing we heard testimony from individuals across the state that support this proposal and see the direct benefit of this measure.

The full language for the bill, as raised by the Energy and Technology Committee, can be found here, and you can find public testimony here.
