Plastic Bag Legislation Takes Effect Aug. 1

August 1, 2019

We’re just a few days away from a new law taking effect that will help contribute to a better environment.

Our statewide efforts to curb the use of single-use plastic bags goes into effect on Aug. 1.

Many towns across the state have already passed their own ordinances regarding plastic bag bans. Those ordinances will remain in effect.

Connecticut shoppers are being encouraged to get on the reusable bag bandwagon. Beginning Aug. 1 customers will incur a $0.10 fee for each single-use plastic bag until they are phased out altogether in the summer of 2021. We expect these efforts to significantly cut down on one of the main contributors to marine pollution.
