Gilchrest Reappointed Chair of Human Services Committee

Speaker Ritter and Majority Leader Rojas reappointed Rep. Jillian Gilchrest (D-West Hartford) as House Chair of the Human Services Committee.
“Jillian is an incredible leader,” Speaker Ritter said. “She is a strong advocate for those who often don’t have a voice at the Capitol.”
Majority Leader Rojas said, “Rep. Gilchrest’s professional career compliments the Human Services Committee. Her focus on prevention, accessible and inclusive systems help to meet the needs of people and families. The Human Services Committee will continue to serve a prominent role in ensuring we rebuild our social safety net to meet individual’s basic needs. I’m confident Rep. Gilchrest will continue to bring the compassion, empathy, and experience needed to serve as an effective leader of this committee.”
Rep. Gilchrest said, “As a social worker, I am grateful to serve as Chair of the Human Services Committee. The committee's top priority will be increasing Medicaid rates to ensure Connecticut residents have access to the healthcare they need, and medical providers are paid what they're owed. And we will continue to push to improve our state's social safety net."
The Human Services Committee oversees all matters relating to the Department of Social Services, and the Departments of Aging and Disability Services. This includes Connecticut’s Medicaid Program, which covers 22% of the state’s population including ⅓ of Connecticut children and 4 in 10 Connecticut births.
