With the session in full swing, I want to provide you with the information and tools to follow along with what I and my fellow legislators are doing.

You can track bills in the Connecticut legislature using the Connecticut General Assembly website or by calling the bill status information room. 

To track a specific bill via email, click here and sign up for notifications.

To track a bill status by phone, call the information room at 860-240-0555 during the legislative session. Call the Connecticut State Library at 860-757-6550 at the end of sessions or between sessions.
 

Free Tax Preparation

The Mansfield Senior Center is hosting free tax preparation services provided by AARP every Thursday through the first week in April. 

Appointments fill quickly. Call 860-429-0262 to check current availability at our location.

Maple Madness

Mansfield will be the host site for the Eastern Connecticut Maple Fest, organized by the Windham Chamber of Commerce.

The event had been held in Hebron for a number of years, attracting thousands of visitors. E.O. Smith High School has been selected as the new site for the free event, which will take place Saturday and Sunday, March 29 and 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Local businesses and organizations are encouraged to participate by exhibiting, or coordinating a maple-themed event, at their locations.

Longtime Town Employee Recognition

Congratulations to Ted Morrissette, who was recently honored for 40 years of service to the Fire & Emergency Services Department.

Mayor Toni Moran, Director of Shared Services Maria Capriola, and Town Manager Ryan Aylesworth recognized Morrissette and other employees  in December.
 

Dart to Retire

Mansfield Public Schools Superintendent Peter Dart has announced he will retire at the end of the school year.

His career in public education has spanned 38 years with a wide variety of teaching and leadership experiences. He came to Mansfield as a principal in 2018. 

Thank you, Peter, for your years of service and congratulations on your retirement.
 

Women's Business Development Grants

Women-owned and child care businesses across Connecticut have exciting opportunities to secure funding to support and grow their companies.

The Women’s Business Development Council is accepting applications for two grant programs designed to help businesses at various stages of development.

The Ignite Grant Program offers grants of up to $10,000 for local women-owned businesses. To qualify, a business must:

  • Be in operation for at least two years
  • Have annual revenues between $25,000 and $2 million.

The application deadline is open through Monday, March 10. Learn more about the Ignite Grant RIGHT HERE.  

The Child Care Business Opportunity Fund provides grants of up to $25,000 to licensed and aspiring child care businesses. The program supports businesses at different stages, from start-ups to those looking to expand. You can apply now through Monday, March 3CLICK HERE for more details.
