We know hungry students have difficulty learning, so the Weaver High School family has a new resource available to help address food insecurity and support students and their families when school is not in session. The Beavers' Den Food Pantry is an in-school food pantry, and thanks to a $7,500 donation from Stop and Shop, the pantry offers a variety of food and beverage options, including snacks. The donation, part of Stop & Shop's School Food Pantry Program, will be used to purchase a year's worth of food for the pantry, and Weaver will have to reapply for additional funding next year.
Weaver serves a population of 700 students, and we want to make sure that students and their families are aware of this resource.
The pantry will be stocked with nutritious shelf-stable foods so students can have consistent access to nourishment when the school is closed on weeknights and weekends. Students can visit the pantry on Fridays and fill a bag with nonperishable food items such as granola bars, rice, beans, corn, and other canned goods.
This resource will help ensure that when students walk through the doors at Weaver High School, they can focus on their brilliance, their goals, and their futures, not their hunger.
