It’s that time again when we start winding down the summer and begin back-to-school preparations; I want to share news and events that will ease that transition for the upcoming school year.

During session, we successfully passed legislation that protects and supports individuals in the state who are in the twilight years of their life. Unfortunately, as the elderly population steadily grows, scam attempts against that community also increase. To help shield our older residents from being victimized, we passed PA 23-161.

Did you know residents in every city and town in the state have applied for CT Paid Leave? Approximately 66,000 workers in Connecticut have received over $375 million in benefits when they were unable to work due to a qualifying health or family reasons.

A reliable electric grid is critical to powering our homes and businesses, and quick restoration from outages should be the norm and expected - yet that always hasn't been the case.

Great news! CareerConneCT is expanding its intake portal. The goal of CareerConneCT is to provide underemployed and unemployed Connecticut residents with resources and training necessary for the pursuit of a well-paying, high-quality career path. The program provides free job training, case management, supportive services, and employment assistance.

The Connecticut League of Conservation Voters recently released its environmental scorecards for the 2022 legislative session. Rep. Hughes has been recognized as an Environmental Champion and scored a 100 percent for her votes on environmental legislation.

Temperatures in the state are expected to remain very high for the next several days, so Connecticut’s extreme hot weather protocol will remain in effect through 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
