Thanksgiving Cooking Tips & Safety
Cooking a turkey for Thanksgiving is a cherished tradition that brings joy, unity, and gratitude. The process begins with selecting the perfect bird, carefully preparing, and envisioning the meal to come with friends and family. As the turkey roasts, its rich aroma fills the house, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that draws family and friends to the kitchen.

I'm sure many of you have your own family recipe, but feel free to consider the roasting tips below.

Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot
Runners are invited to get a little workout ahead of the Thanksgiving Day feast. The Rotary Club of Orange is hosting its 12th annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot on Thursday. The 5K run begins at 8:00 A.M. and the one mile fun walk starts five minute later from the High Plains Fair Grounds. The scenic course in the heart of Orange is a blast for serious competitors and casual runners too. 
It costs $30 plus tax to register for the race per person. Proceeds support the Orange Rotary and the important work it does to help those less fortunate in our community and beyond. CLICK HERE to register and learn more.
 
Small Business Saturday
Small Business Saturday, which takes place two days after Thanksgiving, shines a spotlight on locally owned businesses. It encourages folks to shop small and support their communities during the busy holiday shopping season.

By participating, you can find unique, personalized gifts while contributing to the local economy and keeping money within the community. Small Business Saturday fosters a sense of connection, strengthening neighborhoods and ensuring that local businesses, which are often the heart of their communities, continue to thrive.

Pie Baking Contest
Last week, I attended the annual awards banquet for the CT Association of Agricultural Fairs. I was participating in the state finals for the double crusted apple pie proudly representing the Orange Country Fair.
While I did not win, I was pleased to get close to the top ten and had a great time with my daughter Evelyn who joined me for the event. Thank you to everyone who puts in so much time, effort, and care into all the ag fairs across the state! 
 
Derby Public Library Closed

The Lions Club of Orange will provide its 36th annual Thanksgiving meal at High Plains Community Center on Sunday, December 1 at 12:30 P.M. Doors open at noon. The dinner is open to everyone free of charge, but the target guests are the town’s elders, shut-ins, and those in need of good food and fellowship.

Transportation can be provided by the Community Services transportation program. Call the transportation coordinator at 203-891-4788 to arrange a ride.
