I recently joined with 16 of my colleagues in the legislature to write a letter to the State Insurance Commissioner asking for a thorough and open review of proposed health insurance company mergers. These mergers could have a significant impact on the health insurance of families across Connecticut as well as jobs in our insurance industry.

There has been a dramatic rise in prescription drug abuse, and it is something that affects each and every town in Connecticut as well as this country. On Monday, I hosted a community forum at the Mansfield Public Library on insurance mergers along with Sen. Mae Flexer, Rep. Linda Orange, Rep. Susan Johnson, and the Connecticut Campaign for Consumer Choice. The purpose of the event was to discuss what the proposed merger of health insurance companies Anthem and Cigna will mean for consumers.
