Budget Town Halls: July 12th & 13th

July 7, 2017

I hope you can join me at one of three Budget Town Halls I'm holding on Wednesday and Thursday next week. The House is expected to vote on a budget on July 18th, making it important that I get your feedback before then.

Currently, Governor Malloy is running the state by executive order, and it's imperative that the legislature pass a budget soon to prevent cuts to non-profit service providers and towns.

There are currently five budgets that have been presented - one from the Governor and two from both the House and Senate. The Speaker of the House has announced that we will vote on the House Democrats' proposal on the 18th.

There are no easy choices in this year's budget process. I am particularly concerned about the short- and long-term effects on our towns and the state's economic stability if we do not pass a budget this month.

Your input is greatly appreciated as I continue to review the potential impact of the choices in front of the legislature on our towns. I hope I'll see you at one of next week's town halls for a productive discussion on the state budget.
