Dear Neighbors,
This past Wednesday, I was honored to be sworn in to serve as your State Representative for the 133rd District, serving Fairfield and Bridgeport. As I took the oath of office, I thought about my Dad, a Vietnam Veteran, who came home from the war and became an attorney thanks to the GI Bill. We were raised with the values of service and justice and I am honored to carry forward this legacy.
It was wonderful to confer with my legislative colleagues and begin planning how we are going to help the people of Connecticut this session. We were also joined by constituents and leaders from Bridgeport and Fairfield. One of those leaders, a friend and fellow resident of the 133rd District, Jennifer Barahona, was sworn in as the Deputy Secretary of the State. Congratulations, Deputy Secretary!

This session, I will be serving as House Chair of the Public Health Committee and as a member on the Appropriations and Transportation Committees. I look forward to working for and with all of you.

Resources for the Upcoming Session

It's easier than ever to follow along and get involved in our legislative session. There are several resources you can utilize that will help you stay updated on our work as it unfolds in Hartford.

Here's how you can stay connected and actively participate:

  • The Office of Legislative Research (OLR) provides nonpartisan and unbiased research to members of the General Assembly and their staff. Part of their duties include writing bill analyses, which are summaries of bills in plain language. Click here to check out their website.
  • In addition, OLR recently published the 2025 Major Issues report, which summarizes key issues the legislature could take up during session.
  • You can view the Connecticut General Assembly's upcoming events by checking out its schedule on the CGA official website
  • Follow CT-N for live coverage of committee meetings, as well as House and Senate floor debates.
  • You can register to monitor any bill's journey as it goes through the legislative process. By signing up, you can enter the bill number and receive real-time updates. Stay informed with email notifications whenever there's a change in the bill's progress.
  • Visit this website for information on how to testify on a bill at a public hearing.

Together, we can ensure all voices are heard.

Legislative Town Hall
Thanks to all who braved the cold to join the Fairfield delegation this week to discuss priorities as we begin the session. Sacred Heart University generously shared space so that we could hear from constituents on issues such as traffic safety, educational policy, healthcare, funding for our nonprofit providers, energy costs, and more.

If you were unable to join us but would like to share your ideas and concerns please reach out to me via e-mail or at (203) 522-3037 (cell) or (860) 240-8362.

Please share this information with those who might find these resources and events helpful and of interest. You can also sign up for future e-mails. Have a wonderful weekend.

Peace,

Cristin McCarthy Vahey
