Special Session

October 1, 2020

The House of Representatives concluded a one-day Special Session early Thursday morning that included some important accomplishments I am sharing with you below.

We not only took action on the most transformative Energy reform legislation on utility rates in a decade, but voted on other critical measures that I would like to highlight.

H.B. 7010, AAC the Authorization of State Grant Commitments for School Building Projects, included a $189 million project to help replace Norwalk High School.

As you may be aware, our Norwalk Board of Education, City Council and Mayor are all on board with this project, and have worked tirelessly together with our state delegation to make this funding possible, including local bonding commitments.

For more details on this project, please click Here for a news story in the CT Examiner and watch my floor remarks in opposition of a proposed amendment to take this funding out of the bill.

I pushed for inclusion of this project in this bill package because I am convinced that this will be a good investment with endless potential for our students and the local economy. Please take a look at my House floor remarks video in support of the legislation, that also includes an additional $10.8 million allocated to Jefferson Elementary School.

In addition, we:

  • Overhauled the “Transfer Act” to make it easier to re-develop brownfields and former industrial sites.
  • Streamlined the process for counting ballots this November to help cities and towns with this important task
  • Passed expanded environmental justice requirements.
