Nolan named vice chair of Appropriations Committee

December 10, 2020

State Representative Anthony Nolan (D-New London) has been named vice chair of the General Assembly's Appropriations Committee for the 2021-2022 session, one of the legislature's key committees. Speaker-designate Matt Ritter (D-Hartford) recently announced Nolan's appointment.

"Anthony has been a member of Appropriations for two years and brings that experience to the vice chair job," Ritter said. "I am confident Anthony will use his new responsibilities to advocate for his New London constituents and all of Connecticut. I know Anthony is ready to address the state's next two-year budget."

"I am ready to get to back to work on Appropriations and I thank the Speaker for the opportunity to serve as vice chair," said Nolan. "We're entering unchartered territory next session due to the pandemic and I expect many challenges for us. Matt has been supportive and I appreciate the chance to evaluate Connecticut's fiscal health and develop legislation that keeps us on sound financial footing."

The Appropriations Committee is responsible for budget matters related to state agencies, state employee salaries, benefits and retirement, teachers' retirement and veterans' pensions, collective bargaining agreements and arbitration of awards for all state employees.

Nolan was first elected in 2018 to represent New London's 39th House District. In addition to Appropriations vice chair, Anthony begins the session in January as a member of the Education and Internship committees.
