Governor Lamont to lift more COVID-19 restrictions beginning May 1

Governor Lamont today announced that Connecticut will begin lifting more COVID restrictions on May 1, including those on all outdoor restrictions. Bars will be allowed to operate outdoors without serving food.

"I think we’ve earned May 1 as a time we can be outside," Governor Lamont said, adding that if it goes well further restrictions will be lifted on May 19. Those restrictions will include allowing bars to open indoors and capacity limits lifted at stadiums and large public and private events. Social distancing restrictions will also be dropped.

The loosening of restrictions is contingent on declining metrics and an increase in vaccination rates. The indoor mask mandate will remain in effect at least until the governor’s emergency powers expire on May 20.
