Renovations are now complete on the MLK, Jr. school campus

April 27, 2021
The renovations to the auditorium and gymnasium at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School and Breakthrough Magnet School were unveiled last week during a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Students, faculty, staff and parents can be proud of a restored and updated gymnasium and auditorium.

I am pleased to have been among the invited guests to celebrate the renovated facilities at a school I attended. Now my son is a student at MLK Middle School.

Superintendent Leslie Torres-Rodriguez, Mayor Luke Bronin, Deputy Secretary of the Office of Policy Management Kosta Diamantis, MLK Middle School Principal Dr. Doreen Crawford, Breakthrough Magnet School North Principal Katie Leonard, Board of Education Chairwoman Ayesha Clarke, BOE members, and students from both schools were among the guests.

Students displayed their talents during the celebration.
Plaques commemorating the project teams were unveiled. On the left: the architect and construction team. On the right: the many contractors from Hartford and across the state.
The Hartford community was well-represented during the renovation project with input from parents, students, teachers, and many other stakeholders. Thanks to this collaboration, the three-year renovations were completed in 16 months and will serve students for years to come.

Guests were invited on a walk-through of the restored auditorium and gymnasium.
