My Thoughts On The 2021 Legislative Session

June 14, 2021

I began serving my second term in January representing New London's 39th House District and this year has been the most productive and relevant to Southeastern Connecticut and the state overall.

I sponsored, co-sponsored, and had significant input on many bills and we truly accomplished some amazing things with legislation, including:

Changes to the Port Authority, especially with regards to the redevelopment of State Pier; allowing online sports gambling; clean slate; the environment; stronger domestic violence laws; Husky health care; juvenile justice reform; more help for nonprofits and small businesses; and increased funding for education. The session was a resounding success and while didn't accomplish all we wanted, we did quite well.

Working with so many different people and the wide variety of opinions they bring to the table poses significant challenges, but Democrats and Republicans came together on most of our important legislation. Being part of much-needed change in Connecticut has been truly uplifting and a great accomplishment.

I am extremely thankful for the many suggestions and recommendations from both sides of the aisle that led to consensus during the bill drafting process. Putting aside partisan differences overcomes political alliances and leads to good legislation benefiting all of Connecticut.

A special thanks to the New London community I love so much. Many of you have reached out and I want to assure you I will always listen to your concerns, no matter what side you are on.

The job is not done. We have more to accomplish to get us where we want to be as a state, region, and city.
