Recreational Adult Cannabis Use is Signed into Law – Now Accepting Applications for Social Equity Council
On Tuesday, Governor Ned Lamont signed recreational adult cannabis use into law – the final step following years of hard work to ensure legislation that not only protects public health and safety, but one that truly focuses on equity and righting the wrongs of our past. To achieve equity through the legislation, SB 1201 establishes a Social Equity Council which will be tasked with developing workforce training and social equity programs, encouraging individuals from communities disproportionately harmed by the enforcement of cannabis prohibition to participate in the cannabis market.

I am now accepting applications for my appointment to this council. I'm hoping to identify a qualified individual who is looking to shape Connecticut's newly-established cannabis market and steer it in the direction of equity and prosperity for those who have been harmed the most by cannabis prohibition.

Appointment Requirements:
  • Must have at least 5 years of professional experience in economic development focused on aiding minority-owned businesses.
  • No member of the Social Equity Council may, directly or indirectly, have any management or financial interest in the cultivation, manufacture, sale, transportation, delivery or testing of cannabis in Connecticut.
  • No member of the Social Equity Council may profit in any way from sales or purchases.
To apply, please click the "Apply Now" button below which will direct you to the application form. Applications must be submitted before July 9. Interested residents can email CannabisSocialEquityCouncil@cga.ct.gov for further details

Denise Merrill Announces She's Not Seeking Reelection for Secretary of the State
On Tuesday, Connecticut Secretary of the State Denise Merrill announced that she would not seek reelection in 2022. Through her years in the House and her three terms as Secretary of the State, Denise Merrill has been a tireless advocate for the voters of our state – overseeing some of the most tumultuous election cycles and constantly fighting to safeguard our democracy. I am grateful to have worked alongside such a strong advocate and a good friend – I wish her nothing but the best and look forward to seeing how she'll continue to advocate for the rights of Connecticut's voters.

Today in Connecticut History: Marilyn Monroe Visits Roxbury, CT
Today in 1956, the small, rural, western Connecticut town of Roxbury was swarmed by reporters who had learned that the internationally famous starlet Marilyn Monroe was there visiting her fiancée, Pulitzer prize-winning playwright, famous for writing Death of a Salesman and The Crucible, Arthur Miller.

After several minutes of Miller’s attempt to deflect press questions, Marilyn made an appearance beside her fiancée, and the two briefly posed for photos before retreating inside. Miller and Monroe were married four days later in a small, private ceremony in Westchester County, New York.
